Yamaha Motor Launches New 7-Axis Cobot and Compact DC48V Controller

IWATA, Japan, October 23, 2025 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) introduced the Yamaha Motor Cobot, a new 7-axis collaborative robot offering smooth, human-like motion. The company also released a dedicated compact DC48V controller, designed to support advanced, flexible automation across industries.

Human-Like Motion for Smarter Collaboration

The Yamaha Motor Cobot mimics the natural range of a human arm. Its 7-axis design allows motion around obstacles and access to tight spaces.
Each axis features an integrated torque sensor that delivers soft, precise, and compliant movement.
The robot immediately stops upon contact with a person, ensuring safety during human interaction. Yamaha expects TÜV SÜD certification for functional safety soon.

Dual-Mode Operation for Flexible Use

The cobot includes two operation modes. A reduced-speed collaborative mode supports safe human interaction, while a high-speed mode enhances productivity inside guarded areas.
With a 1,300 mm arm reach and 10 kg payload, it handles a wide range of industrial tasks — from assembly to material handling.

Compact Controller Enables Mobile Integration

Yamaha also introduced a new dedicated controller with simple pendant operation and compact form.
The controller runs on DC48V input, allowing seamless battery sharing with AGVs and AMRs.
This design enables cobot deployment on mobile robotic platforms, expanding flexibility for manufacturers.

Precision Torque Sensing for Gentle Motion

Every joint integrates a motor, reduction gear, and high-precision torque sensor.
This configuration enables delicate control for tasks requiring sensitivity — like connector insertion, polishing, or force adjustment.
By finely tuning parameters, the cobot responds instantly to changes, supporting smooth and safe collaboration.

Designed for Human-Friendly Workspaces

Yamaha designed the cobot with a soft, curved exterior and a matte finish that reduces glare and intimidation.
The approachable look creates comfort in shared human-robot spaces, redefining the visual standard for collaborative robotics.

Simple Visual Programming for All Users

The Yamaha Motor Cobot supports intuitive block programming in addition to traditional text coding.
Users can drag and combine instruction blocks to create programs quickly, even without robotics experience.
This simplicity accelerates deployment and reduces the need for specialized programming skills.

Tested and Proven in Real Production

Yamaha already tested the cobot at its Fukuroi South Factory, where it operated in real manufacturing conditions.
The trials verified its reliability, motion quality, and compatibility with existing automation lines.
These results confirm its readiness for full-scale deployment across multiple industries.

Addressing a Changing Manufacturing Landscape

Manufacturers face shorter product cycles and rising demand for high-mix, low-volume production.
Yamaha developed the cobot to meet these needs — supporting efficiency, flexibility, and workforce collaboration.
Demand for collaborative robots is growing rapidly across automotive, electronics, food, and cosmetics sectors, driven by global labor challenges and automation adoption.

A Broader Automation Vision

Yamaha offers a full lineup of automation products — from single-axis robots to SCARA systems and linear conveyors.
The new cobot strengthens this portfolio, enabling Yamaha to deliver more integrated, optimized total automation solutions.
The company will continue advancing intelligent automation that improves efficiency, flexibility, and quality on modern production floors.
