Siemens Acquires ebm-papst IDT

Siemens has finalized its acquisition of ebm-papst's Industrial Drive Technology (IDT) division. This strategic move strengthens Siemens' position in factory automation and digitalization. It also enhances the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

Boosting Factory Automation

This acquisition brings significant growth opportunities. Specifically, it targets intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions. IDT adds about 650 employees in Germany and Romania. Its portfolio includes mechatronic systems and drive systems. These power free-moving, driverless transport systems. They also move goods and materials efficiently.

Expanding Market Reach

IDT's technologies perfectly complement the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. This solidifies Siemens' role in flexible manufacturing automation. Siemens will integrate the new portfolio. Moreover, its global sales network will open new markets. This creates significant business potential. It focuses on intelligent, battery-powered drives and robot solutions.

Enhancing Customer Offerings

Achim Peltz, CEO of Siemens Motion Control, stated, "The new portfolio expands our offerings significantly." He added that customers want to automate and digitalize production. "Our integrated mechatronic drive systems boost flexibility. They also improve productivity and efficiency. This applies to the growing market for conveyor and autonomous transport systems. This includes mobile robots, driverless systems, and shuttles."

Supporting Sustainability Goals

These systems align with Siemens' sustainability objectives. They provide energy-efficient solutions. They also foster flexible, scalable, and secure digital factories. Combined with software-based automation, these solutions advance adaptive production. This connects the real and digital worlds.

New Opportunities for IDT

Ebm-papst announced its intent to sell IDT in March 2024. Both parties then signed an agreement. The sale now gives IDT access to the international market. Siemens' global sales organization will facilitate this. This creates new opportunities for innovation and business growth. Siemens has retained all IDT employees. The parties have not disclosed the acquisition price.
