Share

Siemens AG has finalized its acquisition of ebm-papst's industrial drive technology business. Siemens will now market the business as "Mechatronic Systems." This acquisition brings roughly 650 employees to Siemens. Their portfolio includes intelligent, integrated mechatronic systems. These systems operate in the extra-low voltage protection range. They also offer innovative driving systems. These systems power free-moving, driverless transport.
Enhancing Siemens Xcelerator
This acquisition significantly enhances the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. It strengthens Siemens' leadership. We are a top provider of flexible manufacturing automation. Integrating this new portfolio expands our existing offerings. Siemens' global sales network opens new markets. This creates significant business potential. We see growth in intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions. Robot solutions also offer new avenues.
Boosting Factory Automation
Achim Peltz, CEO of Motion Control Business at Siemens Digital Industries, explains this move. He states new portfolio elements expand customer offerings. These customers seek to automate and digitalize production. Our integrated mechatronic drive systems offer increased flexibility. They also boost productivity and efficiency. This serves the growing global market. We target conveyor and autonomous transport systems. This includes mobile robots and driverless transport. Shuttles are also a key focus. Seamless compatibility with Simatic controllers provides an advantage. Safe Velocity, a software-based safety solution, offers more benefits.
Expanded Portfolio Highlights
The expanded portfolio includes two main variants. The Simotics E-1EE1 uses brushless internal rotors. It suits battery-powered conveying systems. It also works well for storage and sorting. The Simotics E-1EV1 features brushless outrunners. It offers high efficiency and compact design. This is ideal for intralogistics applications. Both variants are available. They come in 24 V and 48 V versions. The portfolio also includes transmission solutions. These are only available with Simotics E motors. The Simotics E ArgoDrive driver steering system is a key innovation. Siemens developed it for growing intralogistics demands. It also meets automated production needs. It comes in Light, Standard, and Heavy variants. It enables safe, precise omnidirectional control. Automated guided vehicles benefit greatly. They can even carry heavy loads.
Strategic Locations and Sustainability
These systems support Siemens' sustainability goals. They provide energy-efficient solutions. They help create flexible, scalable digital factories. They also ensure secure operations. The newly integrated business has three locations. Two are in Germany: St. Georgen and Lauf an der Pegnitz. One is in Romania: Oradea. The ebm-papst Group announced its sale intent in March 2024. Both parties signed an agreement then. The sale has now been completed. The Industrial Drive Technology division gains international market access. Siemens' global sales organization facilitates this. Siemens has welcomed all division employees. The parties have not disclosed the price.
