Rivian Launches Mind Robotics to Drive Industrial AI and Automation

Rivian has launched Mind Robotics, a new spinout focused on industrial AI and robotics. The company aims to apply artificial intelligence to enhance manufacturing and other physical-world operations using Rivian’s production data as its foundation.

Turning Production Experience into Innovation

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said the idea came from Rivian’s own automation experience. “We saw an opportunity to create robotics solutions that improve plant efficiency,” he explained. Scaringe will chair the Mind Robotics board, while Rivian retains an ownership stake.

Fueling the Spinout with Strategic Investment

Mind Robotics has raised 115 million dollars in seed funding led by Eclipse. Former Rivian executive Jiten Behl confirmed the investment on LinkedIn. The funding will support the development of AI-powered industrial automation tools rooted in Rivian’s factory systems.

Building Focus Through Independent Ventures

This marks Rivian’s second spinout in 2025, following the launch of Also Inc., a micromobility startup. By forming independent ventures, Rivian can pursue new technologies faster while keeping its electric-vehicle operations focused. The model also allows external investors to back specialized innovation.

Strengthening Rivian’s Industrial AI Base

Mind Robotics will use Rivian’s production data to improve robotic precision and plant efficiency. The company plans to start within Rivian’s manufacturing network before expanding into broader industrial markets. “AI can transform how we operate in the physical world,” said Scaringe. “We want direct influence over how these advanced robotics evolve.”

Positioning for the Next Wave of Automation

Mind Robotics complements Rivian’s existing manufacturing systems and deepens its automation capabilities. The company has not yet detailed staffing changes but confirmed that its new venture aligns closely with Rivian’s industrial goals.

Aligning with Broader Industry Trends

Rivian’s move mirrors trends across the manufacturing sector. Companies like Tesla and General Motors are rapidly advancing robotics and AI for production optimization. Industrial AI now represents a core capability, not just a support function.

Expanding Beyond Automotive

Through Mind Robotics, Rivian aims to apply its manufacturing expertise to global automation challenges. The spinout strengthens Rivian’s long-term strategy: building technology-driven businesses that extend beyond vehicles and redefine how industries manufacture at scale.
