ABB Drives Methane Reduction

ABB secured a contract with dsm-firmenich. This partnership supports a new cattle feed additive facility. The site is in Dalry, Scotland, west of Glasgow. ABB provides automation and electrical systems. Their solutions boost efficiency and asset use.

Innovative Feed Additive Production

This facility will produce Bovaer®. It is a methane-reducing feed additive. Scientists researched Bovaer® for over 15 years. Just a quarter teaspoon per cow works. It can cut dairy cow methane by 30 percent. Beef cattle emissions drop by 45 percent. This significantly reduces the environmental footprint.

Tackling Global Methane Emissions

Livestock accounts for 32 percent of methane emissions. Almost 600 million tonnes are emitted annually. Reducing these emissions is crucial. It supports the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target. Bovaer® has already cut 300,000 tons of CO2e. This plant will be Bovaer®'s first large-scale production site.

Accelerating Climate Action

Mark van Nieuwland highlighted Bovaer®'s impact. He looks forward to wider collaboration. ABB's expertise accelerates Bovaer® adoption. This partnership significantly decreases methane emissions. It supports global climate change efforts.

Extending a Powerful Partnership

This project strengthens an existing partnership. ABB will supply all automation hardware and software. This includes the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® control system. The scope also covers IT, OT networks, and cybersecurity. Process CCTV systems are included. Electric motor control centers and drives are also supplied. ABB's work finishes by November 2025. The facility will then become fully operational.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Per Erik Holsten emphasized emission reductions. Human activities cause 60 percent of global methane. Reductions are vital for climate targets. ABB proudly works on this project. It will significantly cut human-caused methane.
